Boxycharm for August arrived in straight party mode. Everything you would need to be the life of the party was in this month’s box. From a lipstick to lashes to an eyeshadow palette, this box was sure to knock it out the ball park. So what came in this month’s box and did it live up to expectations? Let’s find out.
Smashbox Always on Metallic Matte Liquid Lipstick:
Each box got a Smashbox metallic matte liquid lipstick. My first Smashbox lip product and I couldn’t be more excited. The shade I received was XO, Vlada. A rose gold with gold pearl shade that will leave your lips feeling comfortable and beautiful. I loved how this color looked on me. It’s a typical color I would wear everyday. It gives off this beautiful metallic matte finish without drying the lips which I really loved. One thing I loved about it is that it stays in place. It doesn’t smudge and it lasts 8 hours. Now that is a lipstick to carry in any makeup bag. Retail price is $24
Adesse Sweet Almond Cuticle Oil:
I’ve tried nail polishes from this brand before so it was only at matter of time till a cuticle oil were to arrive. This cuticle oil definitely has a sweet almond scent to it. What I really loved is that it didn’t leave this greasy feel to my nails. It went on light and hydrated my cuticles. It has jojoba oils and vitamin E shea in to keep your cuticles soft, moisturized, and hydrated. If you’re looking for a cuticle oil, this is one I would recommend. Retails for $18
Bang Beauty Chocolate Eyeliner:
Did someone say 3 for 1? This chocolate eyeliner can be used 3 different ways. You can use it as your eyeliner of course, as an eyeshadow base, or you can use it on your brows. I love when products have multiple uses for them. The only thing I didn’t like was the shade. My brows are my darker and I probably won’t use it as an eyeliner. I think the product is awesome but I just don’t see myself using it. If the shade works for you then go for it. It’ll be worth it for what it does. Retails for $22
Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks:
If you follow me, you know I love face masks. So since I love face masks then there’s a pretty good chance I’m going to love eye masks and that is exactly what happened. This is the first time I try an eye mask and I loved it. Wander Beauty eye masks looks like gold aluminium foil which gives it a fun look. It helps brighten, hydrate, and reduce dark circles. The hyaluronic acid helps get rid of wrinkles and it also carries aloe leaf extracts and lavender oil that helps soothe the eye area. My under eye area was definitely smooth but one thing that had me a tiny bit concerned was I felt a slight bit of burning when I took mine off. It may have just been me but I’m not sure. If you have tried these sound off and let me know if the same has happened to you. They retail for $13
House of Lashes Lashes In Featherette:
The one item in this box that I was crossing my fingers for were these lashes. I have always wanted to try a pair of lashes from House of Lashes and to know that it came in my box made me super excited. Not everyone received the lashes as there were two other products that you could of gotten. Some were going to receive these while others were going to get either the Becca primer or the Tarte lifted sweat proof mascara. I got the lashes and absolutely loved them. I have worn them about 4 times already and each time they came to slay. You can wear these lashes up to 15 times!! That’s awesome! They gave my lashes extra dimension, length, and made them look sexy. They were pretty easy to put on given my troubles in the past with putting on lashes but these went on perfect. If you haven’t tried House of Lashes make sure you do. You won’t regret it. retails for $12
Laura Lee Los Angeles Party Animal Eyeshadow Palette:
This palette was set to be the star of this box. It’s bold and vibrant colors made this palette the perfect eyeshadow palette to stand out at in a party setting. I won’t lie I was a little intimidated when I saw the shades only because they are so bold that I wasn’t sure what look I wanted to create. I started playing around with it and came up with this really fun and cool look that was only missing an outfit to complete it. There are 6 bright shades in this palette and it has a small mirror. Use these shades for a really cool 80’s party or just because you feel like being bold. Unfortunately, the hype on it fell pretty quickly as most of you know the controversy surrounding Laura Lee and those 2012 retweets that she posted. Boxycharm quickly put out a statement denouncing those remarks and as their social media shows, they stopped promoting anything on the party animal palette for the rest of the month. I feel very disappointed as Laura was one of my favorite influencers and I just never thought she would do that. I understand it was at a different time in her life when she was younger and made a big mistake. It still doesn’t take away from the fact that she hurt people with her actions. I hope that she takes this as a learning experience and bounces back in the future as a better person. This palette retails for $19
My final thoughts on this box was…I loved it as usual. My favorite item were the lashes. The palette was a bit intimidating but I was able to put out a look. I loved the cuticle oil and the liquid lipstick. The eye masks and eyeliner were ok. The eyeliner is in a shade that I won’t really use and the masks left me wondering about the after effect. Otherwise, this box was GREAT as always and I’m looking forward to next month. I also wanted to remind you guys that Boxycharm is releasing Boxyluxe on Sept. 1st for current subscribers. If you don’t know what it is, it is a separate subscription that will cost you an extra $28.99 four times out of the year (Sept, Dec, March, & June) and will feature products over $300. So in September you will pay the $21 for your box plus the $28.99 and you will get the Boxyluxe. In October, you will return back to just the $21 a month until December. September’s Boxyluxe will have 11 products!! We’ve gotten some sneak peeks from an eyeshadow palette from Pretty Vulgar to the Smashbox collab with Nicol Concillio of their water primer.
